The Railway Children.Edith Nesbit (Діти залізниці.Едіт Несбіт анг.) — English Library.
Young heroes of the novel by Edith Nesbit (1858—1924) “The Railway Children” have to move from their comfortable house in London to live in a small rural estate. There are no servants with them already, their mother is constantly at her work, so little ones, apart from their home duties, have to seek entertainments for themselves. But as to this task, they have no difficulties at all: adventures find them anywhere, and their shrewdness, inventiveness, disposition at doing good deeds help the children get out of awkward predicaments and find many true friends.
Habitual and well-regulated life of three little children from the London suburb is interrupted by the news about their father’s going somewhere for a long time and they will have to move to a small rural house where there will be neither servants nor toys, and their mother will have to work all the time. Still, their rich childish imagination helps them find entertainments everywhere — on the canal, in the garden and, of course, on the railway. Two sisters and their brother, due to their inquisitiveness, get into different adventures, but the most important riddle for them is the mystery of their father's disappearance. Will they be able to solve it?
